Lviv city has

Casinos in Lviv

There are two main high end casinos in Lviv and whether you want to hit the tables or just watch the vast amounts of money that are won (and usually lost!) here, then the Grand Club or the Split Casinos in Lviv are the places to go.

Grand Club Casino

The most popular casino in Lviv, where you can play all the classics (Black Jack, Roulette etc).

Address: no. 10 Shevchenka Street (next to classy confectionary shop ‘Switoscz’)

Split Casino

Another high end casino in Lviv. The casino is separated in two: the main gaming area plus a section for the serious players! For those who cant afford to keep up with the pace of spending here, it certainly makes for an interesting evening!

Castles

Olesko Castle

Olesko Castle (aka the Oval Castle) is located on the border between Poland and Ukraine (about a 70 minute drive from Lviv city). Located ontop of a hill overlooking Olesko village, it has been an important bastion in Ukraine’s numerous wars. Now, it is a very popular tourist destination due to its varied art gallery.

One of the most interesting pieces is a 30ft long (over 20ft high) tapestry with life size imagery that certainly makes the Bayeaux Tapestry seem pretty insignificant!

There is a superb collection of icons, ceramic tiles stove, carved ornate fire surrounds, amazing wood carved statues (various sizes).

The painting of the Battle of Vienna weighs over 8 tonnes (30ftx20ft) and is the original.

Pidhirtsy Castle

Pidhirtsy Castle (aka Podhorce), although sadly gutted by fire, is still a great place for a day out. In summer time, the grounds are filled with people taking picnics or walking the beautiful grounds. The Lviv Art Gallery has started to restore this beautiful building and hopefully it will become an even bigger tourist destination in the next few years.

Gyms

Grand Fitness Centre

Open from 7am until 10pm, the Grand Fitness centre at no. 10 Shevchenka street in Lviv offers all sorts if treatments and a well kitted out gym. If you want a proper Ukrainian sauna experience, this is also the place to go!

Aerobics, yoga and pilates lessons are available along with personal trainers.

Skiing

Lviv is the gateway to the Carpathian Mountains and has access to some of the country’s best ski resorts. In fact, you don’t need to be a skier to enjoy the Carpathian Mountains in Ukraine as they are also very popular in summer too. The weather is mild and the mountains occupy are large area of Ukraine so there are plenty of hiking, biking etc opportunities.
