Ski Resorts
Lviv is widely regarded as the gateway to the Carpathians Mountains and the majority of tourists visiting the Carpathians ski resorts are likely to visit Lviv. The city has very transport links with a number of ski resorts, namely Slavsk ski resort which has its own railway station and bus station.
The distance between Lviv and Ukraine’s most popular ski resort of Slavsk is120kms and the road has been recently tarmacced so is in very good condition. The last 20kms of the road to Slavsk have not been retarmacced and there are potholes (which are filled in when the snow goes). There are plenty of service stations and restaurants along the route.
The Carpathians are probably one of the most beautiful and completely unspoilt mountain ranges in Europe. With abundant flora and fauna and little habitation, they are an explorer’s paradise and only just over an hours drive from Lviv city. There are countless lakes, former glaciers; thick forests that stretch for hundreds of kilometres without a village in sight…the Ukrainian Carpathians are undoubtedly Europe’s last undiscovered wilderness.
As a result, many Lviv citizens escape the city at weekends to escape to the Carpathians and who wouldn’t with Europe’s largest mountain range on your doorstep? Regular tours and excursions are arranged from Lviv to the Carpathian ski resorts (mainly Slavsk, Dragobrat and Kosiv).
The Resorts
There are around 15 or so resorts throughout the Ukrainian Carpathians many of which are being expanded and improved as skiing takes off in popularity. The most popular resorts are Slavsk, Dragobrat, Bukovel and Tysovets. More info on all resorts can be found below.
Whether you are looking for a family orientated resort with new facilities or somewhere to get away from it all for pro skiers, the Carpathians have something offer everyone.

Not all of the places listed below are actual ski resorts,
like the ones above, but what they do offer are facilities like ski runs, some lifts, restaurants,
equipment for rent, some hotels etc. In the very near future, it is almost certain that these places will be
turned into proper fully fledged resorts, so if you’re thinking of purchasing a great value holiday home with
plenty of potential, one of these places should be a consideration.

The following are not as large as the above listed ones, but they do offer
great potential. Most have some good ski slopes and accommodation is available, although this is mainly
in the form of private rooms to rent, hostels or small family hotels. However, it is likely in future these
places will grow into much larger holiday destinations, since Ukraine is an up and coming place.
Some of the above resorts are seeing investment, so these are sure to follow.

- Zhdenievo
- Solochyn
- Mizhhirya
- Huta

There are a number of smaller ski areas scattered across
the Carpathians and this list is only a partial one, but here we have tried to show the most prominent ones and
will continue to update our site.
The map below shows most of the above ski resorts
Snowfall
The snowfall in the Carpathians has been very regular and the skiing lasts from December through until mid April and sometimes until early May for the ski resort of Dragobrat. Russian winters sweep over the mountain range ensuring that the snow fall is constant; and heavy!
Property in Ukrainian Ski Resorts
Property for sale in the Carpathians and owning holiday homes in Ukrainian ski resorts has become more mainstream over the last year or so as skiing in Ukraine has gained more popularity. Places such as Slavsk can receive up to 50, 000 tourists per day during the most peak times (Christmas and New years). There is now a government backed project in place for Slavsk ski resort to improve the facilities. Work on a gondola has already started.
Prices in Ukrainian ski resorts are still relatively low compared to Eastern European counterparts such as Bulgaria and Slovakia. Property development has still not properly started in any of the resorts however; the very first off-plan ski apartment offer in Ukraine has started in Slavsk (the Eagle Valley Project).
